The artist has shown remarkable technique and taste in this refreshingly modern artwork. It is an attractive and highly aesthetic piece, radiating a sort of feminine elegance despite the apparent masculinity of the subject. It is made further appealing by the presence of the flowers and water lilies, adding a touch of the exotic.
I was rather impressed by the black stripes on the tiger's face; I found them impeccably drawn and coloured, and to add to that, they create a pleasant illusion of movement. The glint in its eye is finely lit and carries a sense of determination, ferocity and command. The whiskers even look three dimensional from certain angles, and that testifies to the complexity of techniques used. The tiger's body is almost sculpted, and the reflection in the water is subtle, enhancing the picture rather than detracting from it.
There is something to be said also of the colours: while naturalistic, they are carefully chosen and incorporated. The warm, rustic browns and beiges on the tiger's fur work brilliantly with the soft pinks and the luscious greens of the flowers. The muted grey background brings the picture together, further enhancing the tiger.
In conclusion, this is a charmingly unique and quietly intense artwork that demonstrates an "outside of the square" approach to art.
